Our History

1999: Twas the year Christmas Wonder Lights began as just a brother and sister side hustle within the DFW metroplex. This year only ten homes were decorated with lights
When Melissa relocated to Harris County, she never imagined Christmas Wonder Lights would grow into the largest Katy’s Christmas lighting company. Today, in addition to serving Katy, Melissa’s team also installs beautiful holiday and Christmas lights across Houston, Sugar Land, and Baytown.
2000: We began offering live and artificial Christmas trees and wreaths
2005: Christmas Wonder Lights expanded our Katy Christmas lights to homeowner associations (HOA’s) and apartment complexes.
2009: CWL hired Paul Smelter, a full-time master electrician, to handle all troubleshooting and make sure your lights stay flawless all season long. Paul has remained with CWL for 13 years.
2011: We started our holiday decorating services, including trees, banisters, stairwells, balconies, and more, to provide our clients with a one-stop resource for all their holiday decorating needs. We have done holiday decorating for residential and commercial properties, including many that you will see when you take a holiday home tour in the Harris County area.
2015: Christmas Wonder Lights began decorating commercial properties. In the past six years, we have provided commercial Christmas lights to restaurants, churches, banks, shopping centers, offices, retailers, and event centers.
2017: Started our prop division- we rent out a variety of high-quality fiberglass holiday props. From animated displays to all your favorite Disney character cutouts.
2018: As our request for props grew to malls and shopping centers, we now have a climate-controlled facility to provide our clients a one-stop resource for all their holiday lighting and decorating needs.
2019: Melissa, the owner of Christmas Wonder Lights, married Lon Emerson, the owner of Emerson Exterior Home Enhancements, a fence company in Houston, TX, and the company grew to even greater heights. Melissa no longer installs lights but focuses on marketing, scheduling, estimates and inventory. She prides herself on keeping up with all the latest lighting and holiday design trends and her favorite part of owning a Chrustmas light company is getting to meet with customers and help her creativity flow into a unique, one of a kind holiday design.
2020: The impact of Covid was felt as our team faced supply chain issues and significant retailers. We made a business decision. Christmas Wonder Lights no longer provides or installs customers retail-grade lighting. This ensures that our team does not run out of supplies or have to shop 50 different stores to fulfill clients' orders. If you were a precious client, we would give you a $25 credit towards your commercial Christmas lights if you allowed us to donate your retail lights to the Houston Zoo.

Most of Melissa's friends and family would call her a “workaholic,” but most people don’t know that Christmas lights take more planning than they do in weeks of installation. The season kicks off in October for commercial lighting, and in the off-season, Melissa spends time making sure Christmas Wonder Lights has the best products and latest technology.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three grown children, and two grandsons, who are the apple of her eye.
Melissa enjoys traveling and volunteering. She serves on the Human Trafficking Justice and Freedom International board of directors and at her church in Richmond, TX.

On-time Service Guarantee
Weather permitting, you can count on the installation team to arrive promptly on time, ready to work and to install your Christmas lights without disturbing your home or customers; if, for any reason outside of mother nature, we are unable to make your designated date we will provide you with a 20% discount. In addition to our on-time service guarantee, if you have any issue with your holiday lights, romps, or décor, give our team a call, and weather permitting, we will return within 48 hours to correct the problem of charge.

Commonly asked Questions About Katy Christmas Lights
Do you need to be home during installation? No. However, we suggest you turn off your sprinkler systems, leave your outlets to plug on, secure your pets and stay accessible by phone should we need to contact you with any questions.
How soon do you start installing Christmas lights? At CWL, we begin scheduling for the following season in January, so we highly recommend not waiting until the week of Thanksgiving as chances are we will be booked up. We start installing commercial Christmas lights as early as September and residential Christmas lights in October. As an early bird, you will receive a 10% discount, and our team will come by the day you are ready to turn on your holiday lights to ensure they work as intended.
Do you offer same-day service? Unfortunately, as we have grown, we can no longer accommodate last-minute requests. We require a minimum 72-hour notice.
How soon after Christmas do you remove the lights? That’s entirely up to you, and we have customers who request their display be removed the day after Christmas, while some customers prefer to leave their lights up until February. We aim to have all lights removed no later than January 15th except by request.
What areas does Christmas Wonder Lights service?
Our Christmas light company is located in Katy. However, we are happy to serve the greater Houston area, including Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, Brookshire, and Waller County, and all of Fort Bend County from Sugar Land Christmas Light Installation to Missouri City Rosharon and Richmond, and we hang lights in Pecan Grove. We also Baytown and Galveston County.
