Our History
​
Never despise small beginnings.
1999: Twas the year Christmas Wonder Lights began as just a brother and sister Christmas light installation duo with only ten customers in the DFW metroplex.
​
2000: We began offering live Christmas trees from a local farm, we would pick them up and deliver them within a 25 mile radius.
​
2005: Christmas Wonder Lights expanded our residential Christmas light installation to home owner associations (HOA’s) and apartment complexes.
​
2009: After a decade of working almost exclusively with homeowners the words about CWL spread and we received enough request from commercial property owners to hire Paul Smelter, a master electrician, to be on site for commercial Christmas light installation to ensure safety and a seamless process. Paul also oversees residential troubleshooting, he has remained with CWL for 13 years. Since this time we have provided commercial Christmas light installation to restaurants, churches, banks, shopping centers, offices, retailers, municipalities and event centers.

​2011: CWL started our residential Christmas decorating services, offering custom wreaths and garland for banisters, stairwells, balconies, and more, allowing us to provide our clients with a one-stop resource for all their Christmas decorating needs. We have decorating both residential and commercial properties.
2015: Started our prop division- we sale and rent out a variety of high-quality fiberglass holiday props. From animated displays to all your favorite Disney and Marvel character.
2017: Having grown the DFW market Melissa made the decision to expand our Christmas light installation to Houston, Katy, Sugar Land and surrounding areas. Furthermore CWL chose to stay open year around to source new products, keeping up with current trends, creating custom décor and working with clients on creating their perfect vision for their holiday displays. This ensures that when the season starts our team is prepared for Christmas light installation .

2018: As our request for props and elaborate displays grew to malls and shopping centers, we opened our Christmas warehouse, a climate controlled facility that also houses all our residential and commercial Christmas decorating and Holiday lighting and allowing us to offer all inclusive packages.

2019: Melissa, the owner of Christmas Wonder Lights, married Lon Emerson, the owner of Emerson Exterior Home Enhancements, a fence company in Houston, TX, and merged the companies into one. This allows Melissa to focus her attention and efforts on marking, consulting with clients, and the overseeing her Christmas decorating and
Christmas light installation crew in Katy, Houston, and Sugar Land.

2020: The impact of Covid was felt as our team faced supply chain issues . Melissa made the business decision to no longer installs customers holiday lighting. This ensures that our Christmas light installation provides Houston homeowners and commercial properties with only the best commercial products for our customers from top of the line vendors and suppliers. Our love for Christmas shows in our attention to detail in creating cohesive displays from installing one tree or filling your property with Christmas Magic. If you are a previous client, we will provide you with a $25 credit towards your Christmas light installation for donating your lights to the Houston Zoo.

2021: CWL began offering both temporary Christmas light installation and permanent Christmas lights to Houston area residents and businessowners.

Melissa Emerson
Most of my friends and family would call me a “workaholic,” but what most people don’t realize is the behind the scenes work that goes into owning a Christmas lights installation company. While we only install from October - December and remove holiday lighting in January there is no off season. February- September is when I am planning to make sure our clients have the best products and latest technology our industry has to offer.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, three grown children, and two grandsons, who are the apple of my eye. I also enjoy traveling and volunteering. I am proud to serve on the board for the Human Trafficking Justice and Freedom International and at my church in Katy TX.

Q & A About Christmas Light Installation
​Q. Do I need to be home for my Christmas light installation?
A. No. However, please be advised that before our team arrives you will need to turn on your outlets so we have power to test your holiday lighting and shut off your sprinkler systems, secure your pets and stay accessible by phone should we need to contact you with any questions. If you will be having your tree light up then we ask a week prior to our arrival having them trimmed to provide a beautiful holiday lighting display.
Q: How soon do you start installing Christmas lights?
A. We begin scheduling for the following season during removal in January, our Christmas light installation calendar fills up quickly as space is limited so we highly recommend scheduling during the summer months instead of waiting until the week of Thanksgiving as chances are we will not be available. We start commercial Christmas light installation in September and offer Permanent Christmas light installation from February- October. Our residential crew starts in October. As an early bird customer, you will receive a 10% discount. Everything will be left unplugged until you are ready to turn them on.
Q: Do you offer same-day service?
A: While we have grown we can still accommodate last minute request in most cases except when it comes to Christmas decorating unless you are choose Decorators choice which are items that are premade and available for purchase. Our specialty orders take five to seven days for our Christmas Decorating team to create.

Q: How soon after the holidays can lighting be taken down?
A. Our Houston holiday lighting is removed according to a route, please bare with us as what takes three months for our Christmas light installation team to install has to be taken down and moved to storage within a month. We ensure that all properties will have their displays removed no later than January 31st.
