Written from the perspective of the Grinch who stole Cypress Christmas
Cypress Christmas lights can add to your family's joyful holiday memory as bright twinkling lights can make a house feel warmer and inviting, especially if you plan on having company over. Still, Christmas light installation needs to be tasteful.
We have all seen houses decorated in Cypress with Christmas lights in such a way that makes a lovely house look like an absolute mess. To understand design, it is more important to see mistakes and poorly decorated homes than it is to see the well-decorated ones. There is no reason for social status to be reflected.
I don’t mean to put a wet blanket on the spirit of Christmas, but I have seen some very bad or, should I say, SLOPPY Christmas decorations. In most cases, the bad Christmas decorations are usually on the unkept homes in the not-so-nice neighborhoods, but there are always exceptions. When seeing sloppy Cypress Christmas lighting and unmanaged landscaping with no pride of ownership, one wonders how bad the house looks on the interior. This year, I will take photos of good and poorly done Christmas light installations in Cypress to add examples to this page. For now, let our experienced Christmas light installation pros in Cypress provide you with a list of dos and don’ts we have compiled over the last 20 years to help you do your best to show off that holiday spirit.
Cypress Christmas Lighting Dos & Don’ts
The first thing is don’t light up too early. It’s ok if you are a business, but there’s no need to light up your home in red and green until after Thanksgiving. Now, some Christmas light installers in Cypress, including us, start installing in October so that we can better serve all of our customers during this short season. Still, none of our displays are connected to dusk-to-dawn timers that don’t have to be plugged in until Black Friday. Along these lines, you don’t want to remove your Cypress Christmas light display too early. Keep the Christmas spirit alive as long as possible- if you hire our Christmas light installation company, we remove all displays no later than January 31st; however, many homeowners choose to unplug them until the removal can be done. In some European countries, holiday lighting is not taken down until February 2 – Candlemas Day.
Ugly Christmas lighting
Be consistent. Use the same type/size of lighting. Don’t use large bulbs in one place and smaller bulbs in another. Multi-colored bulbs are as good as solid colors. But it’s best not to mix solid and multicolored bulbs unless you know what you’re doing. Lights must all be the same if outlining a house (eaves and windows). When painting the trim, your eaves and window casing must be the same color. Choose multi-colored or one single color only for outlining architecture. You wouldn’t have multi-colored trim when painting your house, so why do it now if you want the best look?
Bad Christmas Lighting
What happened to the rest of the porch lights?
If you don’t have enough lights, get more. Don’t just stop in the middle of the project.
If you want to put lights on your porch railing and the steps separate the railing into two sections, you can extend the lights across at the bottom of the steps to go up to the next railing. When doing this, you must replace the bulbs with dead bulbs or cover them with black tape in the area that should appear unlit at the base of the steps. Don’t just continue the lit strand all the way across. This looks sloppy—the same thing applies to Windows.
Are you outlining your window? Don’t allow a stream of lights to be visible from the outlet to the window or from window to window. Replace those bulbs with dead bulbs or black tape to keep them neat. This house looks very sloppy, and the viewer may wonder if the interior of the house and its residents are just as messy. Christmas stores sell lots of decorations. Just because they sell them doesn’t mean you have to buy them.
